Around one billion people go hungry, with children being most concerned. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/politics/almost-a-billion-go-hungry-worldwide-8007759.html
The correlation with the topic under discussion here may not be evident at first glance. For even if all people lived on a vegan diet, this would not mean that the poorest of the poor could afford to eat enough.
In spite of it all, the circumstances are rather queer. One billion out of seven billion people suffer from hunger while the food for about 5,2 billion is wasted for animal production, which in addition causes inconceivable damage to the environment (cf. Food consumption of animals).
With today’s capacities, 12 to 13 billion people could be fed by means of a worldwide vegan diet.
Furthermore the tremendous waste of water for the meat production makes things worse. In many cases even those people suffer from water deficiency which go hungry anyway.
